Kompanie Luftnachrichten Schul- und Versuchsregiment<\/em> (1. Staffel) and <em>8. Kompanie Luftnachrichten Schul- und Versuchsregiment<\/em> (2. Staffel) the unit had been renamed to <em>Luftnachrichten-Abteilung 100<\/em> in August 1938.[break][break]In November 1939, three month into the war, the unit was removed from the <em>Luftwaffe Signal Corps<\/em> and formed an independent bomber group, <em>Kampfgruppe 100 (K. Gr. 100)<\/em>.[break][break]It was not before December 1941 that the <em>Kampfgruppe 100<\/em> had been formally organized as a Geschwader &#8211; <em>Kampfgeschwader 100<\/em>&#8211; with initially two Gruppen, later four Gruppen. The unit was dissolved in the early months of 1945 after having suffered heavy losses.<\/p>\n<h2>Overview of Events<\/h2>\n<p>Formed before the war, the later <em>Kampfgeschwader 100<\/em> served under different names in the beginning. It participated in the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 The Polish Campaign (1939)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=168\">Polish Campaign<\/a> in 1939, as independent <em>Gruppe<\/em> in the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 War over the North Sea (1939 \u2013 1940)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=179\">War over the North Sea<\/a> (1939 &#8211; 1940) and in the<a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 Assault on Denmark &amp; Norway (1940)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=196\"> Occupation of Denmark and Norway<\/a> in 1940. Later in 1940, the <em>Gruppe<\/em> was moved to France and fought on the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 The Channel Front (1940 \u2013 1941)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=221\">Channel Front<\/a> (1940 &#8211; 1941) before it was moved east to the middle sector of the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 Eastern Front (1941)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=234\">Eastern Front<\/a>in late 1941.<\/p>\n<h3>The I. <em>Gruppe<\/em> \/ KG 100<\/h3>\n<p>Finally transformed into a full <em>Geschwader<\/em> in December 1941, the <em>I.\/KG 100<\/em> was returned to the southern sector of the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 I.\/KG 100 \u2013 Eastern Front (1942)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=254\">Eastern Front in 1942<\/a> and also operated the southern <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 I.\/KG 100 \u2013 Eastern Front (1943)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=262\">Eastern Front in 1943<\/a>. After a switch between <em>I.\/KG 100<\/em> and <em>I.\/KG 4<\/em>, the &#8220;new&#8221; <em>I.\/KG 100<\/em> served on the <a title=\"Kampfgeschwader 100 \u201cWiking\u201d \u2013 the \u201cnew\u201d I.\/KG 100 (1944)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/?page_id=284\">Channel Front<\/a> again, flying missions against England in 1943 and 1944 before it was removed from the Geschwader end of May 1944 and became <em>III.\/KG 1<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>The II. <em>Gruppe<\/em> \/ KG 100<\/h3>\n<p>In December 1941, the <em>III.\/KG 26<\/em> became <em>II.\/KG 100<\/em> when the former <em>Kampfgruppe 100<\/em> was officially transformed into <em>Kampfgeschwader 100<\/em>. The II.\/KG 100 served in the middle sector of the Eastern Front in early 1942 but was moved to Greece at the end of April 1942 where it operated until April 1943.<\/p>\n<h3>The III. Gruppe \/ KG 100<\/h3>\n<p>The III.\/KG 100 was not formed before September 1942 when the former Aufkl\u00e4rungsgruppe (See) 126 became III.\/KG 100. It served in Greece in 1942 and early 1943.<\/p>\n<h3>The new II.\/KG 100 &amp; III.\/KG 100 after April 1943<\/h3>\n<p>After the original II. Gruppe and III. Gruppe has been removed from Greece, they had been completely reformed from scratch in Germany. Eventually, they were moved back to the Mediterranean theater of operations in Juli 1943. In 1944, both groups remained in the Mediterranean until September 1944.<\/p>\n<h3>The IV. Gruppe \/ KG 100 (Erg\u00e4nzugsgruppe)<\/h3>\n<p>The <em>IV.\/KG 100<\/em> did not exist before December 1941 but the <em>Kampfgruppe 100<\/em> already had an Erg\u00e4nzungs-Staffel in 1940 (which later became <em>IV.\/KG 100<\/em>). <em>The IV.\/KG 100<\/em>served trainings and combat readiness training until it was dissolved in September 1944.<\/p>\n<h2>Coat of Arms<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/KG100.png\" rel=\"lightbox[164]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-137 aligncenter\" title=\"Coat of Arms - Kampfgeschwader 100 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/KG100-300x300.png\" alt=\"Coat of Arms - Kampfgeschwader 100 \" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/KG100-300x300.png 300w, http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/KG100-150x150.png 150w, http:\/\/www.chronicles-of-the-luftwaffe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/KG100.png 481w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Kampfgeschwader 100 &#8220;Wiking&#8221; had selected a black Viking ship flying a red and white colored sail, white shields and a red banner on a blue background as the Geschwader&#8217;s coat of arms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The design is said to be dating back to the year 1940 and was proposed by Kpt. z. S. Helmut Grubbe[1.
